Sumaya Omar

My name is Sumaya Omar, a 17-year-old A-level student, studying Politics, English Literature, and History to deepen my understanding of the world. I am of Somali descent and growing up around tribalism, which is prevalent due to European imperialism, has fuelled my commitment to the struggles of the Black community, and I’m passionate about exploring the often overlooked and underrepresented struggles of Africans across the diaspora. I also want to celebrate our victories. Due to works of the program 'Knowledge is Power' as students, we are given the space and opportunity to explore the different aspects of Black history whether that be the adversities or triumphs in thorough detail an opportunity that majority of students are not given.
